Calendar 🗓
July 14 (Friday) - Bastille Day 2023! We’ll be serving our best French fare: pissaladière, pommes frites, baguettes and fromage, along with special vins and bières all day long!
August 5 (Saturday) - It's National Oyster Day, so you know we’ll be celebrating. We’re thinking 3 different oysters... maybe 900??? That just frightens me. 300 for the grill, 300 hundred shooters, and 300 just because? If you’re willing to celebrate the day, we’re willing to shuck! And you know when I say 900, I really mean a thousand just because… well, it would be really cool, right? I mean 1,000 oysters in a single day!!!
September 8 (Friday) - Friday night Anniversary Tasting, 5-7pm. That’s right, Friday night wine tasting! Four wines, four different and delectable bites to enjoy with your wine, and a bar that’s open until 9pm, serving some of your old favorites. It’s an anniversary after all (not, however, a statement on what’s to come).
Store News 🏬
We are racked and stacked pretty well down here. A couple new breweries are making their debuts in the store, and we've got all the beef. From beers to steers, we’ve got the makings of a pretty good holiday. For all your needs this weekend, stop in and stock up. Besides smoky skies, it looks like a dry Fourth is ahead of us!
Wine News🍷
To say the least, we brought in plenty of new wines, and whereas you may not see them in our “New Wines” section, you will find them on the new bar list. However, we do have a fare amount of new wines in the racks that we are eager to share with you as well. Stop in and see, or possibly take a seat at the bar to enjoy all the new wines in this week.
Dan’s Feature ⭐️
Caymus 2021 California Cabernet Sauvignon is a new release from -- you guessed it -- Caymus. I’ll let the winemaker and Chuck Wagner take it from here: “Caymus has been producing Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon since 1972. In the decades since, we have learned a great deal about the conditions that enable the production of this varietal. These conditions can be found in other parts of California. Places from Paso Robles to the lesser-known areas in Lake Monterey and San Benito Counties can produce great Cab. We search for special pockets of land with warm days and cool nights, whose rocky soils mean that vines struggle, thus producing rich, concentrated wine. Since the early days of Caymus, we have worked to create a signature style of Cabernet - dark and lush, with ripe fruit and luxurious tannins, drinkable upon release or with age. This wine displays that Caymus character. Just as Napa came from obscurity to demand attention, so may other parties of the state, This wine reflects optimism about how much remains to be explored and cultivated in the world of fine winemaking.” Five cases total were allocated for Northwest Ohio, and I asked for three. I was told I could only have two, and only one showed up for delivery… We now have 11 remaining. This is obviously a test market supply because there’s no more on the radar. Priced at $64.99, it’s a bargain compared to the new 2021 Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet at $99.99. If you’re a fan of Caymus, a new one is here for you to try.
Dan’s Pick 🥂
Yeah… I said I was done with choosing Rosés as my features or picks, but I’m not! This week’s pick is just too perfect for this weekend. Two Mountain NV “Rawn’s” Rosé is packaged as a 4 pack of 250ml bottles. These crown-capped bottles are held in place by a top rack holder and a wide bannered rubber band and are perfect for the cooler. Some would say that there are two glasses of wine per bottle... I’d say forget the glasses! Give me that cute little bottle, and I’ll show you a disappearing trick. You don’t have to have them in a cooler or on a picnic. These are perfect porch and patio pleasers. Tasting notes describe this rosé as, “blooming with ripe wild strawberry, a touch of watermelon and hints of fragrant violet. The palate bursts with rich red fruit and balanced acid, making it a natural to pour on sunny days, on cloudy days, and all the days in between.” Bingo, that’s my kinda wine, and at $21.99 a liter, it’s worth it. I mean that’s either eight glasses of wine, or in my view, 4 bottles to be enjoyed. Either way, it’s a bargain to behold!
Food News 🐟
Fresh Scottish & Copper River Salmon in today!! The secret is also out down here on our sashimi-grade Tuna. We now serve this delectable fish as crudo or a sashimi plate. Our crudo is minced tuna with a healthy dose of Ponzu, everything bagel seasoning, and a bit of green onion served with tortilla chips and a dab or two of Wasabi. Our Sashimi plate is a dinner plate covered with thinly sliced tuna, doused with Ponzu, shaken with everything bagel seasoning, and topped off with a perfect amount of wasabi. Both of these dishes were first reserved for our private snacking, and it was so good, we just decided to share both with you.
Food Feature 🥩
It’s all about the grill this weekend, and the weather looks quite inviting. While it doesn’t have to be all beef -- we have great chicken and pork to share with you -- we do have the beef! Dry Aged Wagyu Strip Steaks, Dry Aged Wagyu Hanger Steaks, Wagyu Burgers, and you got it, all-beef Wagyu Hot Dogs. Can you say Wagyu? It's one of the most tender and flavorful cuts of beef available, and we have a variety of it down here. Wagyu doesn't speak to you? How about fresh, hand-cut High Choice Demkota Strip Steaks at $16.99/lb? We’ve got plenty for you down here to fill up that grill and celebrate this holiday weekend, so stop in and see us.
Oyster News 🦪
It’s Glacier Bay again for this week. There’s something to be said about the consistency in these oysters. We know what we’re getting each and every time, and you can rest assured that we’re serving you the best and freshest oysters available to us. However, if you’re looking to throw a few on the grill this weekend, we have some big Cotuits just in today, as well as Raspberry Points. Let’s be honest, how can you celebrate the 4th without oysters? 🤷♂️

Final Thoughts 💬
Well, we’ve conquered the new wine list, and it appears I’ve purchased enough grillable items for the 4th... and possibly through the 4th of August. This year's going pretty fast. I’d prefer to slow it down just a bit, but that’s not something I’m capable of. So as we enter the second half of 2023, make sure and enjoy every single holiday the calendar allows. A happy 4th of July to all, and on a personal note, to someone I spent innumerable Independence days with, cheers to my old friend and U.S. Blues brother, Dougan 🥂
Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
