News 🗞

I know I said last week was the last event of the year, but since when can you believe me when I say something like that? This Saturday, another soup special to warm you up...  Potato and Steak soup for you this week. I’ve never made it before but hey how difficult can it be? What more could you want? We have extra potatoes and trim from our Tenderloins and Prime Rib so why not put these two remainders together and create a beautiful bowl of soup…we’ll have this all day Saturday while supplies last. Come on down and enjoy another Soup Saturday with us! I’ll guarantee this will be the last special of 2024.

Wine Feature(s) ⭐️

Just as you would suspect this weeks feature is a sparkling wine, not just any Sparkling but the #20 bottle in this years Wine Spectator Top 100! Roederer Estate Anderson Valley Brut is a delicious choice for this years celebration, this wine comes from oak-aged wines from their estate’s reserve cellars which are added to this blend, creating a multi-vintage cuvée that has great finesse and depth of flavor. We’re bringing this special sparkler to you for $42.99! Tasting notes describe this bottle as “crisp and elegant with complex pear, spice and hazelnut flavors. It is fresh and lightly fruity with great finesse and depth of flavor”. Or as described from the Top 110 list “Dynamic yet sleekly elegant, with rich strawberry and apple flavors that are accented by spiced cinnamon and yeast roll as this dances toward the vibrant finish”. Why not pick up a couple of these, one for New Years Eve and a second to celebrate whatever comes next!

Wine Pick(s) 🥂

There’s more to New Years than just the EVE…there’s New Years Day!!! For New Years Day if you’re like me and plan a traditional German meal you’re going to need a Riesling. The Loosen Brothers from Bernkastel/Mosel have been making wonderful wines for many years and for such an occasion as New Years day their good old 2023 Dr L Riesling is just the bottle. While a perfect example of Mosel Riesling this selection goes out the door at $13.99, making it a great bottle to share with the family on this festive occasion. The Dr. Loosen Estate has been in the same family for over 200 years. With ungrafted vines averaging 50 years old, some of the best vineyard sites in Germany (four rated grand cru and two premier cru by both the 1868 German classification and the more current Wine Atlas of Germany), Ernst Loosen has the raw materials for stunningly intense, world-class wines. With crop yields almost half of what is permitted by law, only moderate use of organic fertilizers, and old-fashioned cellar practices, Loosen strives to create wines that unmistakably say, “Riesling, Mosel, and Dr. Loosen.” In his own words, “The great winemakers I have met invariably possess a clear concept in their mind of what their wine should be. It’s a vision that places terroir over technology, and grape quality over quantity. This is the level of winemaking we pursue at Dr. Loosen. Our goal is to produce wines that are luscious, complex, and true to their roots”. Stop in and grab a few of these bottles so you can keep that dinner crowd happy all day long…

Oyster Selection 🦪

Jolly and Silver Bells are our Oysters for this weekend, I mean how could I say no to such a festive named bi-valve. These are two Massachusetts that are the perfect size that while having a different floor profile from each other deliver everything we like from this region. Cape Cod Jollys have great salinity and a kiss of sweetness on the finish, while Silver Bells these Wellfleet gems show sharp brine, plump meats and a rounded seaweed finish and in an effort to spread more joy to children in need this holiday season, a portion of proceeds from Silver Bells will be donated to Toys for Tots. It’s a win win on this weeks oysters so make sure and stop by to enjoy a few of these before they’re long gone.

New Wine🍷

Only one new wine this shortened week…NV Ridge Cabernet from Healdsburg, Ca. is a new one that has just been released and at $39.99 it’s a steal. Ridge wines are almost always considerably more expensive so when we saw this at $39.99 it wasn’t a difficult decision…

New Beer & More 🍺

No new beers for this shortened week…

Final Thoughts 💬

This is the time that I usually say thank you all for helping us have a successful year down here at the Wine Merchant (which is truly heart felt and sincere). However the last two years I’ve mentioned how I will be taking a step back and how Chelsea will be taking on more of the day to day responsibilities…the latter half is true, Chelsea has and will continue to take on more and more responsibilities as she is already the face of the Wine Merchant but, yeah…I’m not going anywhere soon. Believe it or not I’m actually looking forward to 2025 and the fun we can share with you down here. Happy New Years to all, your continued support is what keeps us coming back!

Happy New Years and Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
