News 🗞

First and foremost, this weekend we will be doing Chicken Marsala Sandwiches. It will be a Brioche bun topped with a juicy piece of chicken marsala with arugula, provolone, and truffle mayo on top, served with chips for $12.99 a pop. Can't go wrong with chicken marsala, right? But more importantly, Fat Tuesday is coming up on Tuesday!!! We will be open late until 8pm with quite a few food and drink specials. We'll have our annual batch of Dumbo (Dan's Gumbo), chock full of... well, everything. Chicken, andouille sausage, shrimp, crab, actual Louisianan crawfish, in a classic gumbo base and served with rice. In addition, there will be a special price on our Nola Oysters, baked with cajun butter, garlic, and bread crumbs. Natchitoches Meat Pies, from the town of Natchitoches in Louisiana (good luck pronouncing that... Dave has been trying to teach us), which are essentially small beef and pork empanadas with cajun spices and the "holy trinity" of celery, onion, and green pepper. Gator on a Stick... which is exactly what it sounds like. Ever had an alligator nugget before? Now's the time to try. Hot Crab Dip, a creamy dip with lots of crab, green onions, and hot sauce, served with crusty bread. And finally some classic Pecan Pie to finish it off, with a variety of Abita beers Frozen Hurricanes on offer as beverage options. We will be serving all day as long as supplies last. Let's make it a party. Let the good times roll, right?

Wine Feature ⭐️

I just read an article in Wine Enthusiast titled “You Should Be Drinking More Moulin-à-Vent”… so of course I’m featuring Louis Jadot 2020 Château des Jacques Moulin-à-Vent. What is Moulin-à-Vent, you ask? It is one of the 10 crus of Beaujolais, the region situated between the better-known Burgundy to its north and Rhône Valley to its south, and it focuses on one grape, Gamay. You are probably familiar with it because of Beaujolais Nouveau, the easy drinking and brand new wines released every November, but there is much more to Gamay than that. It’s becoming more and more known for creating wines that match Burgundy in style and quality but at a much more affordable price point. Each of the ten crus within Beaujolais have a distinct character, but Moulin-à-Vent is said to the the king and the most “Burgundian” of the ten. It turns 100 years old this year as an appellation and just applied to become Beaujolais’ first ever Premier Cru, climbing the ladder of the French ranking system. All that said… let’s talk about this bottle. This wine from Louis Jadot got 93 points from James Suckling, who says, “I love the way this sophisticated Moulin-a-Vent marries the bright red fruit you expect from Beaujolais with savory character and a warm, tannin base that enables it to turn the bright acidity of the Gamay grape into a major asset. Long, complex finish with depth and energy in near-perfect balance.” It is medium+ bodied with vivid aromas of cherry, smoky berries, orange rind, and spice, exceptional structure, and it can age for another 10-20 years. Get one bottle to try now and one to age and try later, $36.99.

Wine Pick 🥂

A couple of weeks ago we tried a new Pinot Noir and were surprised with how much we liked it, especially considering a retail price of just $16.99. Introducing Crū 2022 Pinot Noir from Monterey County, California. Vineyards in the Monterey AVA are heavily influenced by cool air coming in from Monterey Bay and have the longest growing season of anywhere in California, which allows the flavors and character of the wine to really develop and concentrate. "This Pinot Noir reflects the region's hallmark characteristics of bright fruit, balanced acidity, and refined complexity... medium-bodied with a silky texture, offering flavors of ripe red berries, plum, and pomegranate. Hints of vanilla, clove, and a gentle touch of oak add depth without overpowering the fruit-forward profile. The bright acidity keeps the wine lively and refreshing. The finish is smooth and lingering." Easy to drink on its own, but also a strong contender to pair with a variety of dishes, this bottle is an excellent value for a versatile wine.

Final Thoughts 💬

Remember last week when I thought that 30 meatballs would be enough to get us through the weekend? Yeah, that didn't happen. Came in Saturday morning and had to immediately make another batch. I don't believe that will be happening again on Tuesday... at least I hope not. With not one, not two, not 3/4/5 but SIX food specials, we should have enough to go around. Not complaining, though. It really is a good feeling to see you all enjoying what we make for you, and I can't wait to do it again on Tuesday. See you then.

Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
