Wine News🍷
A small group had a celebration down here last Saturday, it was a party celebrating the 40th birthday of two of the attendees. For the event we came out with a few appetizers for them to enjoy a bottle of wine from their birth year 1983. They had asked me to find an “83 early on and it was fun finding a special bottle. It was with great anticipation watching the uncorking, decanting and the initial sampling to declare it’s viability or lack thereof…it was delicious! Everyone had a fantastic time and enjoyed the experience. That’s what we like doing down here, searching out those special bottles, planning the event, prepping and serving foods that compliment the wine chosen. You done’t have to be celebrating a 40th birthday to host such an event, we don’t even care if it’s a celebration, if you would like to host such an afternoon or evening just let us know, we’d be happy to host.
Dan’s Feature ⭐️
Obviously it has to be the Queen of Italian wine, Brunello and a new one just came in today on a pre-order, Uccelliera 2018 Brunello di Montalcino. This has always been one of my favorites and remember their Rosso as being an early bottle in the racks. Brunello is the highest expression of Sangiovese and after you’ve tasted it you’ll understand. Noted as the “Queen of Italian Wine” it stands up to it’s reputation. Tasting notes aptly describe this wine as having “aromas of black cherries, plums, and walnuts with undertones of cedar. The palate is dense and full-bodied, with rich tannins, and a complex finish”. Why is it referred to as the Queen, because being a big wonderful Italian red it also has a definite sense of elegance about it, full bodied but yet smooth, soft and beautiful in taste as in sight. I’ve been fortunate to have the opportunity to drink a 40 year old bottle of this varietal and it was nothing short of spectacular. Can this bottle lay down that long…sure but certainly not necessary this is the bottle for Mother's Day! While priced at $82.99 it’s a celebration bottle and I think it’s safe to say this weekend is in fact a celebration.
Dan’s Pick 🥂
Chateau du Rouet 2022 Cotes De Provence is another favorite Rose’ of mine. This wine is “grown on the slopes of the Esterel mountain, not far from Antibes and Cannes and rank with the very best of Provence”. Tasting notes describe it as, “delicate salmon color with an intense nose which brings notes of small fruits, blueberries, and raspberries. Fruity palate with elegant fresh fruits flavors. Round body, the wine gains a lot of volume on the mid-palate, prolonging into a long, rich aftertaste. Good terroir expression. Pair with cured meet, grilled white meat, Provence flavoured and spicy dishes”. This wine is all that and more, what originally drew me to this bottle was it’s distinctive shape, the shape is a throwback to an earlier time in which all Provencal Rose’s shared this style of bottle. Today however there are but two remaining and you got it we have both! Priced at $18.99 makes it a very worthy bottle for a Mothers Day lunch, pick up a few for the table and be sure to get a few for yourself as well…

Final Thoughts 💬
We’re looking forward to some upcoming events and we’ll be putting additional dates on our calendar very soon. It’s time down here for us to get the grill, smoker, deep fryer or whatever else out and put them to work. The coolers always loaded with cold beer and wine, the racks are full of reds so we can certainly find something to accommodate and compliment them. Keep an eye on our calendar!
Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
