News đ
This Friday is the Spring Art Walk! To celebrate, we will be having a Friday Night Wine Tasting from 5-7pm. You know the drill: four wines for $20. It will be Old World vs. New World this week, France vs. Argentina. We picked out some nice bottles, so make sure to stop in and see which country speaks to your palate more. The bar will be open late until 9pm, and since the cheese specials went so well last week, we decided to do it again! But we're going to amp it up even more this time. Think Manchego, think Black Cambozola, think Liuzzi, the best Burrata you can find in the States where they actually import the water buffalo from Italy and hand tie each ball of mozzarella. You all loved it so much, I just had to say... let's do it again.
Wine Feature âïž
We're back to Field Recordings this week, but let me tell you why... we had this as our glass pour at the bar, and you all LOVED it, so we begged and pleaded and were able to snag the last 9 bottles in the state. How could I not feature it?? Field Recordings 2022 Super Gnario. This is a lighter-bodied red blend consisting of 85% Nebbiolo and 15% Barbera, grown in the Central Coast of California, aged in all French oak. "Super Gnario is a tribute to the classic wines of Italy's Langhe region, blending flavors of dusty cherry, raspberry, blackberry, cherry bark, and thyme in a uniquely delightful manner that marries Italian tradition with Californian flair... you'll feel like you've defeated Bowser after just one sip." A lot of Italian grapes grown in California don't taste like Italy at all, but this one is an exception and truly a fusion of the two regions. Andrew Jones really does do an incredible job of picking vineyard locations that make grape varietals shine in their truest form. With just nine bottles and at $21.99, you better run for this one.
Wine Pick đ„
This week's pick just may be the prettiest bottle you've ever seen... Villarini 2023 Grillo Sicilia from... well, Sicily obviously. We tried this wine a couple of weeks ago, and it was a no brainer to bring into the store, so we ordered a case and... it was out of stock. The next week, out of stock. This week, we finally have it! I think Italian whites are the best wine for warmer weather, and Grillo is one you just don't see that often. The Grillo grape has been traditionally used in Marsala, but more and more producers are starting to make it into a single varietal dry expression. The volcanic soil and microclimates of Sicily make it the perfect place to produce an interesting bottle of wine, and the prices are always more than fair. "The organic grapes used to make this wine reach their full maturity under the Sicilian sun while enjoying the salty breeze from the sea. This wine shows the natural flavors of the indigenous grape variety Grillo, often recognized as fruity and citrusy with hints of stone fruit and melon, with floral and mineral notes. Drink this wine with fish, seafood, white meat and antipasti, as well as salads." Take a bottle of this pretty little bargain of a bottle home with you for just $14.99.
Food Feature đ„©
Our next Dry Aged Program delivery doesn't come until June 6... conveniently just in time for Father's Day. We have a couple of the Dry Aged Porterhouses left, so if you want some Dry Aged, come and grab one of those ASAP. In the meantime, we got in some Prime Demkota Ribeyes at $24.99/lb. If you were one of the ones who gobbled up the Prime Strips last week, this one is for you. If you didn't get a steak last week, now is the time. If meat isn't on the menu this week, try one of the new Cheese Dips we had at the bar last week! They seemed to go over well with you all, so we decided to bring them over to the retail side at a price of $8.99. From Chris' Heritage out of Australia, we have Vintage Cheddar & Caramelised Onion, Vintage Cheddar & Jalapeño, and a new flavor, Blue Cheese, Fig & Pistachio. Spread them on crackers, bread, vegetables, you name it. They even come in a resuable clay pot, so the value lives on after the cheese is gone đ
Oyster Feature đŠȘ
We're back to East Points this week from Delaware Bay. These guys are not the prettiest to look at, but they are big and juicy. Being from the inner bay, they are milder in flavor than those from the cape side, so they are spectacular for baking either Rockefeller or NOLA style, and they are perfect for the grill. If you've never grilled an oyster, now's the time to give it a try with these East Points. Put together a garlic butter sauce with salt, pepper, parsley, and some red pepper flakes or sriracha, spoon some on a shucked oyster, and put on a covered hot grill for 5-6 minutes until the edges of the oyster start to curl. Easy, delicious, and perfect for this weather.

Final Thoughts đŹ
Well, it's that time of year... change is upon us, and it's time for us to start thinking about a new wine list. And by start, I mean we've been tasting and pondering and slowly but surely putting it together over the past several weeks, and we hope to make it available to you by the end of the month. And with the feedback after last week's cheese specials, we may even change up the food list as well... what do you think?
Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
