April Showers Bring May… Patios! Well, at least our patio! In case you missed it, we announced in last week’s newsletter that our patio will open by Friday, May 3rd, regardless of the unpredictable Ohio weather! We are all looking forward to patio season; enjoying a drink (or meal) with great friends under an umbrella with a gentle breeze blowing… Somebody with connections, get the weather on board please! New and Old Favorites

We all have favorites; whether it is a pair of perfectly worn-in jeans with holes in just the right places or that song that when it comes on the radio you crank it up and sing along at the top of your lungs, or the restaurant you go to on your birthday and always order the same entrée- everyone has a favorite something. The great thing about favorites is that they exist in flux; they are always changing. And despite what kindergartners think, you can have more than one favorite at a time! Plus, you can find a new favorite at any moment. (more…)

Weekly Newsletter: Week of March 25

What goes with lamb and ham? Wine, of course, said Sam I Am! All joking aside, Easter is a joyous holiday that is meant to be enjoyed with family and friends. As most holiday celebrations tend to do, Easter revolves around great food, prepared in mass quantities with lots of love. If there is ever a time to treat yourself and your loved ones to a special bottle of wine, holiday gatherings are it. With that idea in mind, we have some recommendations that are a step above your everyday drinks and will pair wonderfully with your chosen main dish. (more…)

A Retraction
Yes, in all of my excitement about Orin Swift last week, this writer (and English teacher) made a mistake! Orin Swift’s founder’s name is David Phinney NOT Finney. Lesson learned- triple check name spellings! Grammar gods- 1, Kim- 0. I apologize, but regardless of the spelling, the man still makes great wine that we are happy to stock for your drinking enjoyment! Thank you for understanding.  (more…)

Weekly Newsletter- Week of March 11

Who is Orin Swift? It’s a trick question- no one! The name of one of our favorite vineyards is the brain child of the company’s founder & winemaker, David Finney. Orin is his father’s middle name and Swift is his mother’s maiden name! We often advertise new Orin Swift arrivals, however, to the average drinker; it’s just a name that doesn’t mean much.  As we have just received their latest release, Fittings, and are waiting on the next “location” wine, we thought this would be a good time to educate you on its greatness! Murphy’s Laws of Wine… I recently read an article in Food & Wine from December of 2012. Their “wine-tasting room” columnist gave a few tips on identifying and purchasing the best bargain wines. As we are always on the lookout for a bargain- we thought we’d pass along these tricks of the trade that we use when purchasing wine and that you can benefit from utilizing also! Keep these tips in mind as you read this newsletter and also on your next wine shopping excursion. (more…)

We and the Red Cross Thank You!

THANK YOU to everyone who participated in our auction of Argyle Fire Prints. The auction was a resounding success with over $1000 going to the local chapter of The American Red Cross. We are in the process of notifying the winners and once all the photographs have gone to their permanent homes, we will personally thank the buyers. If you haven’t heard from us about a bid, it’s probably because you didn’t provide us a phone number- please stop in or call to check the status!
If you didn’t get a chance to bid, we do still have a few select photos for sale. If you are interested, please stop in and talk to a staff member for assistance. We were thrilled with the bids and support of our auction. We look forward to seeing all of you this Friday, March 1, for out 1st of the month charity tasting, again benefitting the Red Cross. Mayor Lydia Mihalik will be our special guest pourer! (more…)

The best isn’t yet to come, it’s here…

It appears that Wine Spectator magazine has been browsing our store. On pages 105 and 106 of the March issue they list Smart Buys- wines that deliver fine character at affordable prices and that are broadly available. Of the 8 listed, we currently have 5 in stock; Meiomi- Pinot Noir, Mollydooker- Two Left Feet, Concha y Toro- Marques de Casa Concha, Klinker Brick- Syrah, Bodegas Borsao- Berola. All of these wines were given 90-92 points (on a 100 scale) from the magazine. This puts them in the “Outstanding” category, meaning they are wines of superior character and style!  Those pages simply validate what we’ve been saying all along- we are the place that makes the best wines approachable and affordable!
